Geocache Description:

A bushwhacker's delight on SGL 156. You are looking for a canister that can be found after a half mile hike from the nearest parking lots. Wear fluorescent orange during the various hunting seasons. BYOP.

Wintergreen is a diminutive resident of the Furnace Hills forest floor. The white flowers precede the red fruits which are edible and have the characteristic wintergreen taste. Nowadays the oil of Wintergreen is synthesized and the plant no longer harvested. Interestingly, Black or Sweet Birch trees also contain this same chemical, methyl salicylate. There are Black Birch trees casting their shadow over this very cache. Rubbing or scratching a twig will release a powerful dollop of this same Wintergreen fragrance.
