Geocache Description:

This cache is located in Hovey Pond Park enjoy the area. Bring your own pen.

"Carduelis tristis" AKA American Goldfinch ID: Breeding male: black "cap" (extends onto forehead), wings & tail; bright yellow body; white whig bars, under tail coverts and tail base; orange bill & legs. Non breeding male: olive brown back; yellow - tinged head; gray under parts. Female: yellow green upper parts & belly; yellow throat & breast. Size: L 4 1/2 - 5 1/2in W 9in Status: occurs year round; common breeder from June - September; very common migrant from March to April and October to November; common to abundant in winter. Habitat: weedy fields, woodland edges, meadows, riparian areas, parks & gardens. Nesting: in a deciduous shrub or tree, often in a hawthorn, service berry, or sapling maple, female builds a compact cup nest of plant fibers, grass & spider silk; female incubates 4 - 6 pale blush white eggs for 12 - 14 days.
