Geocache Description:

This cache is located in the beautiful Hudson Preserve with great views along the trails. Bring your own pen.

"Cardinalis cardinalis" Northern Cardinal ID: male: red overall; pointed crest; black "mask" & throat; red conical bill. Female: brown buff to buff olive overall; gray black "mask"; red bill, crest, wings & tail. Size: L 7 1/2 - 9in W 12in Status: common year round residents. Habitat: brushy thickets and shrubby tangle along forest and woodland edges; also in backyards and suburban and urban parks. Nesting: in a dense shrub, thicket or low in a coniferous tree; female builds an open cup nest of twigs, bark shreds, weeds, grass, leaves &rootlets; female incubates 3 - 4 brown marked whitish to greenish white eggs for 12 - 13 days. This cache is one of 6 caches in a series 1. Carduelis tristis (GC1P769) = A 2. Icterus galbula (GC1P772)= B 3. Cardinalis cardinalis (GC1P8DQ) = C 4. Cyanocitta cristata (GC1P8EB) = J 5. Spizella passerina (GC1P8CG) = S 6. Melanerpes carolinus (GC1P75M) = W On the bottom of each cache there will be a number which the letter equals. (On the bottom of the whole container) You will need to find all 6 in order to find the Backyard Birds mystery cache. (GC1P74Q)
