Geocache Description:

Located near the summit of Mt Wagawn. The reward for reaching this cache are fantastic panoramic views across to Springbrook, the Numinbah Valley and Mt Warning.

You can attempt this cache either from the Numinbah Vally road border crossing, or from Binna Burra Lodge.

We had a bit of an adventure hiding this one. It was wet and slippery, we got eaten by leeches, hit by falling rocks, scratched and bruised, nearly stepped on 2 snakes, and we got lost on the way back down...all in all, a great day out! Don't let all this put you off though, this will be one you will remember.

We recommend starting from the Numinbah Valley border where you can park and grab Pirate63's "Cockroach Border" cache to start your day off on the right footing. From here cross the road into NSW and walk up the grassy rise to the left of the border fence. (this is actually an easement through private property). At the top of the rise you can cross the border fence to the QLD side and continue up to the Bushranger Caves where you can grab zombywoof1954's cache of the same name. Continue on past these spectacular caves for another 100m or so and take the rough track that goes steeply up tthough a cliff break using the handy roots to assist your climb. From here you scramble steeply upwards following the coloured markers that have been thoughtfully tied to vines and trees. You will eventually reach the ridge edge where a short detour offers some great views to Mt Warning. Continue upwards towards the cache along the now well defined path.

After you have found the cache continue approx. 50m to find a wonderful viewpoint overlooking Mount Warning - an awesome spot for lunch or a break.

A short distance on from GZ will bring you to the Wagawn summit sign and the start of the graded Binna Burra tracks and Mt Hobwee. On the way back down, pay careful attention to the coloured markers in the steep scramble section, we missed one, went too far to the left and got lost. In failing light we managed to get back on the right track with the help of our GPSr. It's a challenging 5km round trip. Allow at least 5-6 hours return.

The alternative route is from Binna Burra Lodge, an 18km round trip but on easier, graded tracks. More details can be found here: (visit link)
Another softer option would be to stay at Binna Burra lodge and do the walk downhill only one-way (approx 12km) with the Binna Burra bus organised to pick you up from the valley - but that's cheating!

We enjoyed hiding this one - we hope you enjoy it too.

In the logbook you'll find a number which you'll need to find our "Herbz Challenge" cache (visit link)
