Geocache Description:

One of four caches, any three of which suffice to find the bonus cache: Quincunx 5

This series comprises four traditional caches, each of which contains a ten digit number. Any three of these numbers provide enough information to find the bonus cache - which three will you choose? The numbers are labelled A, B, C and D, and sum to 10,000,000,000: the tenth root of a googol. The grid reference of the final cache (in grid square SP) can be calculated as AB + CD.

A quincunx is an arrangement of five dots as seen on the fifth side of a playing die, with one at each corner of a square, and one in the centre. It is named after the Roman coin worth five twelfths (quinque + uncia) of an as, emblazoned with that pattern.

This cache is near a level crossing on a little-used footpath which crosses a local golf course. The public right of way goes right next to the green for the second hole, hence the name of the cache. An approach from the west may seem closer, but I'm pretty sure there's nowhere to stop along that road. Keep your eyes peeled if you visit at twilight; badgers have been seen on the golf course. The cache is not located on railway land, so having crossed the railway, don't hesitate to cross the stile. The container is a small pot with a "childproof" lid (push and turn to open), and a small pencil inside. The number for the bonus cache is on the inside of the lid.
