Geocache Description:

Watch for mugglers in this area. It's a not so well hidden m&m. Please return it to it's proper hiding spot. If you don't it will with out a doubt be muggled.

The Old Trap Line series is simply a series of caches that follow the creek that I trapped when I was a teenager. It’s hard for me to believe, but that was a half century ago. The physical features of the creek have not changed much in that time. However, the wildlife population is much more diverse. When I ran the line muskrats, opossum, raccoon, skunk and mink were the only fur bearers that existed. If I trapped today, I would also have the opportunity to catch coyote and beaver thanks to the Department of Natural Resources.

I still enjoy walking along that old creek bed remembering the good old days running the trap line. However, one of my most memorial experiences had nothing at all to do with trapping. One very dark, windy, morning stands out in my mind. It was eerie enough, but for some reason I decided to make it worse by making up stories as I walked along. It wasn’t until I reached the end of the line and turned to head back that I shouldn’t have been making up those stories. Now I must walk back through the area that harbored all of those monsters that I had created. As I walked along my fear became greater and greater and the further I went the faster I walked. By the time I reached the fence line that lead to my car I was on a dead run. I was convinced that all of those imaginary monsters were on my heels, and that my only chance to survive was to get to safety of the car as quick as possible. So much for being a great white hunter.

Most of the year my billfold had very little cache in it, but during trapping season I was rich. I often had twenty or twenty five dollars in it. That may not sound like much today, but in those days I could fill up my gas tank twice and have enough left over to get hamburger, fries and shake along the way.

These caches are open to everyone to enjoy, including all of the anti gun and anti hunters. There is nothing out of the ordinary along the way. However, you may be able to get a glimpse or even a picture of one of the many birds and animals that call that old ditch bank home. That in its self should make the trip worthwhile. (BONUS) If you happen to get a picture of one of those birds or animals at the site feel free to log a second find. Just sign the log sheet for one find and post the picture for the second find. Be sure that your pictures are from the site at which you found the cache.

All of these caches are located within the right of way to various county roads. In some instances you will be able to park near the cache in the right of way. However, others may required require that you park as much as an eighth of a mile from the actual cache. Use caution when walking along the road way. Who knows then a car, a pickup, a tractor or a horse and buggy may come along.

Keep on Caching
