Geocache Description:

A small cache near the Wye River on the Tiny Trail.

Among the challenges for the builders of the North Simcoe Railway (1879) was crossing the Wye River twice and the numerous creeks and rivers between here and Penetanguishene harbour. This bridge is P1 and is one of the remaining 13 bridges on this line.

Like the others, it fell into a bad state of repair after the abandonment of the rail line in 1991 and was near collapse. In order for the Tiny trail to carry snowmobile and to be safe for foot traffic these bridges had to be re-built. This one was rebuilt with the help of the Elgin regiment in the mid-1990's. There is a good view of the river here is now also the spot where the Tiny Trail southern trailhead sign can be found.

Do not attempt to cross to this cache from County Road 6. Other than the rail trail, which you can access from the parking spots, the land between the county road and the cache is private property.

Note that this is a very busy snowmobile trail in the winter. This one may not be available in winter.
