We named this the Holly Shelter Bike N Hike, for well.. obvious reasons. The best way in and out is on bike or foot, or both. The cache is hidden about 3.1 miles into Holly Shelter from the gate on Hwy 17. The gate is usually closed from Apr to Sept. When the gate is open you can drive all but the last .5 miles. When the gate is closed (or even open for that matter) I would really recommend taking your bike. The road is pretty hard packed gravel with some light sand here and there.
After riding a little more than 2.5 miles (and finding the first (2) stages of the cache), you will have to strap on your hiking shoes. The last .5 miles is a "path less traveled" although still a visible path. This is a very nice area for hiking back here, but i would keep your gps turned on and track your way in and out. Depending on how grown up it is in the middle of summer, it could be easy for everything to look the same.
This is a multi-cache hidden in the Holly Shelter Game Lands. The Coords listed here will take you to the first 2 stages of this multi cache. The first 2 are small containers, ONE CONTAINS THE LATITUDE, AND THE OTHER HAS THE LONGITUDE of the main cache. You will need to find both of them in order to find the main cache. The main cache is a regular size ammo box with a bunch of small goodies. I left some bug spray in the ammo box, feel free to use it but please leave it for anyone else who is getting eaten alive.
****Black Widow Spider Be Careful***While trying to hide the first stage micro, I came across a very large Black Widow spider. She had made a nice home in the perfect spot for my cache... well, I didn't put it there. If you pay attention to the clues you should not come across her, but for good measure, she is in the stump BEHIND the light pole with the BIG 121 on it.
Please note that this is public game lands and people do hunt out here during hunting season. I am pretty sure they hunt out here on Mon, Wed, and Sat during deer season. You can always find more info if you do a web search for Holly Shelter Game Land.
You can park at the orange gate on Hwy 17 in Hampstead just south of Sloop Pt. Loop Road.
At another orange gate you will find the second one, this is where your hike begins. And where the hiking trail ends, the real search begins.
