A traditional cache placed in the Baxter Wash area of the Mojave Desert northeast of the Cady Mountains.
We noticed a lonely cache named Cady Saganite, which no one had visited for over a year since it was placed, and decided to go visit it. Naturally we brought along an ammo box full of goodies to place somewhere along the way. We had parked 6.8 miles from the Cady Saganite cache and were approximately 3.5 miles into the hike, when we decided to hide our cache. It was a relief to get it off my back, knowing I still had another 3 or so miles to go, to get to the Cady Saganite cache. We found an old Feed Bag with a few cool rocks in it, near the spot where we placed this cache. Someone must have felt it was simply too heavy to carry any farther and left it behind on their attempt to make it home safely. I wonder if they made it. We saw what looked like an old unmarked gravesite on this hike; so someone must have been there to dig the grave. Of course that doesn't necessarily mean the grave digger made it out alive. Anyway, I'm getting side-tracked here. To continue: It only seemed natural to strap the old feed bag to my back where the ammo box had been getting a free ride. Unfortunately, this area of the Mojave Desert is a geologist's playground with many cool rocks to be found. As we continued hiking along towards the Cady Saganite cache, "Trax" kept finding cool rocks, that she wanted to place in our cactus garden, back in Yermo. She just tossed them in the feed bag of course, and I simply huffed and puffed along. I made it to the Cady Saganite cache, but almost didn't make it back to our parking spot. "Trax" had found a lot of cool rocks, but the old feed bag didn't feel that cool on my poor old back. Luckily Volusia85 had some mole skin type bandages with him to treat our blisters along the way. Unfortunately he didn't have one large enough to cover the big blister, that was forming on my backside, where the feed bag full of rocks was slowly beating me to death. Oh well, I made it, and so did the rocks. Looking back on it, I feel it was good exercise. In fact, I can still feel it. This feed Bag cache is a fairly easy find if you find the right road into this area of the Mojave Desert. We would consider it 2WD friendly, although we drive a 2WD Isuzu that sometimes thinks it's a 4X4. Keep in mind this is the Mojave Desert and can be very unforgiving at times. Bring plenty of food and water and watch out for all the critters who call this fine place home. We wouldn't recommend visiting this cache in the extreme heat of summer, which can occur anytime during the months of June through August. You can do it then if you do it early in the day; avoid the afternoon heat. If you break down hide out in the afternoon, and hike out at night or the next morning. Maybe bring an extra spare tire or travel with another vehicle. It's a long hike out if you breakdown along the way. Enjoy!!
