This is the final cache, located in the scenic Tonteldoos valley of Mpumalanga [near Dullstroom], in a series of 18 caches that have been hidden around South Africa at historically important sites. In order to find this final cache you would have had to visit all 18 caches in the Tonteldoos Series and have collected a clue that is in each cache. These clues have been used to indicate the resting place of this final cache. The cache held a FTF prize of a genuine solid gold Kruger Rand. This was claimed by RedGlobe, closely followed by gerhardoosMPsa & Urban Hunters during the caching Event Tonteldoos XIXth Hole Event that was held over Easter Weekend 2009.

The cache is located a few kilometres away from the Tonteldoos Feesterrein. It is recommended that a high clearance LDV or a 4x4 be used – especially if it has been raining. The cache is located on the Riverman Cabin property – this is private property so please respect everything that you encounter. The owner is aware of the cache and has undertaken to maintain it as well. The area is child friendly. Entry is unrestricted and free.

At each waypoint you will find a rock formation that will assist you with verifying your position. As each clue is dependant on the preceding one it will be important for you to know that you are at the correct waypoint. The pictures above each waypoint are the references for that particular waypoint.

In order to find the Starting Point you will need to solve the following 2 puzzles below.

The Sudoku Puzzle will need to be solved in order to find the SOUTH coordinate of the Starting Point and the Matrix Puzzle will provide the EAST coordinate of the Starting Point which is located at
S AB° CD.EFG E RTU° VW.XYZ
Note that F equals 0 [zero] and the other letters represent a number in the puzzle.
This point will also be the initial reference for all other waypoints and the final cache location.
At the following coordinates you will find a “Matrix” - S 25° 19.410 E029° 59.538 This Matrix Puzzle can be solved as follows :-
1. Draw an “X” on the matrix from corner to corner and then add the 4 numbers in the centre square together.
2. Divide this number by 2 and subtract 16 from your answer.
3. From this point take 5 steps left, 3 up, 3 left and 5 down. Subtract 7 from this number. This will be R.
4. Add the number of steps you have taken in #3 above. This is your new starting point.
5. Move 4 down, 6 right, 7 up, 2 left, 5 down, 1 left, 2 down, 1 right and 2 up. Divide this number by 2 and you will now have TU.
6. In October 1883 Field Cornet CN Boschoff fired a shot to indicate the start of the pegging of 8 morgen plots. Select the date of this occurrence as the next starting point on the matrix.
7. Move 2 right, 4 up, 5 right, 6 down, 1 left and 2 up. Divide this number by the date mentioned above. This will be take you to a new position.
8. From this new position move 5 right and 3 down. This will be VW.
9. From this position move 1 down, 2 left, 3 up and 3 left. Multiply this by the last 2 digits of the year that Tonteldoos was born. From this number you will need to subtract 129. This will be XYZ.
Once you have solved the above puzzles you will be in a position to proceed to the Starting Point located at
S AB° CD.EFG E RTU° VW.XYZ
It is approximately 6 km from this point. The Parking Area will be found at S25° 16.106 E029° 58.514

All names below are from the Tonteldoos Series clues that were collected. Where a name is used it will need to be substituted for the NUMBER of the Tonteldoos cache in which it was found. Compute the distance to each waypoint.

Waypoint A – bearing from Starting Point = 70° and distance = A metres
A = (Martie Preller X Eugene Marais) + (CF Beyers X Piet Cronjè) + Dr Andrew Murray + Martie Preller + CF Beyers

Waypoint B – Bearing from A = 253° and distance = B metres
B = (Johanna van der Merwe X Christiaan Rudolf de Wet) + Ingrid Jonker + Danie Theron

Waypoint C – Bearing from B = 228° and distance = C metres
C = (Andrè P Brink X Sir Jaap van Deventer) + Louis Leipoldt

Waypoint D – Bearing from C = 138° and distance = D metres
D = (Emily Hobhouse X Jan Christiaan Smuts) – (Danie Theron X Christiaan Rudolf de Wet)

Waypoint E – Bearing from D = 92° and distance = E metres
E = (Sarel Cilliers X Louis Botha) + Eugene Marais + Stepahnus Johannes Paulus Kruger

Waypoint F – Bearing from E = 133° and distance = F metres
F = (DJ Opperman X Louis Leipoldt) + (Andrè P Brink X Piet Cronjè) + Johanna van der Merwe + DJ Opperman

Waypoint G – Bearing from F = 160° and distance = G metres
G = Sarel Cilliers + Dr Andrew Murray + Ingrid Jonker + Jan Christiaan Smuts – Louis Botha

FINAL Cache Location – Bearing from G = 56° and distance =FINAL metres
Final = Emily Hobhouse + Sir Jaap van Deventer + Louis Botha + Eugene Marais
GOOD LUCK!!!
CLUES and HINTS
Due to the fact that a few of the original Tonteldoos Series caches are no longer active, the original “Tonteldoosbergingskomitee” has decided that this “final” cannot be archived. However, not to detract from the original D5/T2,5 rating of the original cache as published and found in 2009, a list of the required co-ordinates has been provided below for anybody to go and hunt the cache done There is just ONE condition – you will need to solve the puzzle(s) in order to find that GZ!!
All the required ANSWERS are to be found here – but you need to use you head first! You will find a doos filled with words below – some are relevant and some are not! Ha – but which are relevant and which are not? That is for YOU to decide and you to solve.
But the clues are cipher code you say? Really? We ask? But WHICH cipher? Eina! Good luck – and don’t be like a penkop on this one!
NOTE: The hints/clues are NOT in chronological order!!!!!
Small Hint - Once solved the answer will read “PietPompiesequalsnineteen” – the number refers to the Tonteldoos Series cache number – an EXTREMELY important piece of information. You have been warned.
