Geocache Description:

Hudson, Michigan was served by two railroads, the Lake Shore & Michigan Southern "Old Road" (east and west) and the Cincinnati Northern (north and south). The Lake Shore passed over the CN tracks, north of the CN depot. The Lake Shore had their own depot, separate from the CN.

The CN did not interchange with the Lake Shore at Hudson. The CN had a small eight track yard, and had a water thank and coaling facilities for locomotives. On the CN, there was also a stock handling facility for four double deck cars. Stock could be fed and watered at the facility. A 4,000 bushel capacity elevator was on the CN and owned by Cutler-Dickinson Company. CN also served the Pet Milk Company, Hackett Coal Company, Hardie Manufacturing Company, Porter Lumber Company and a scrap metal site.

This multi-cache will take you to some of the remnants of these two railroads.
Sadly, both depots have been long removed from the town,
However, there is still plenty of proof of where these two lines passed each other.
Just east of stage one's coordinates the underpass still stands, where the Cincinnati Northern passed underneath the Lake Shore & Michigan Southern.

As you travel through Hudson, and the surrounding area, it's still quite easy to see how steam locomotives criss-crossed Lenawee and Hillsdale Counties.

Stage One takes you to a historical site. There was a sign here that told of the story of the Lake Shore & Michigan Southern Railroad. You will see a 4-digit date on the bridge arch. Add these 4 digits together individually, then add 5. Use for (xx).

For Stage Two take a short stroll northbound along the paved pathway from Stage One along the shore of the Bean Creek. Shortly, the walkway will come to an end at part of the Cincinnati Northern Railroad, right ahead of you. The year it was built is along both sides of the structure as 19(yy). (There is also a bonus benchmark on this location)

For Stage Three (Final), subtract xx and yy using this equation:

N 41 51.245 (-.xx0)
W 084 21.369 (-yy0)

Recommended parking for the Final is in the lot southwest of the Final Coords.

The container is a long, narrow camoed lock & lock.

Congrats to Skrip for the FTF!!
