Geocache Description:

Come join us for food, fun and great scenery 1-5 Sunday afternoon. I will provide hotdogs for a mid-afternoon potluck (please let me know, by 14 June, how many dogs you plan to eat). There are several caches in the area, and I have set up a geocaching game that would require more paddling.

You will need to have a boat, or make arrangements with someone who has one to get to this event (and don't forget life jackets). This event will not occur at the posted coordinates, which are for the launch area at Union Reservoir, where the actual coordinates will be posted on the bulletin board. This area is available on a first-come-first-served basis, so I will not know which island will house this event until I arrive the day before, but I can tell you the lake is only 1 mile long with the launch area near center. The site I am hoping to get is .4 miles from the launch area.

I am calling this a "microluau" mosly as a way of describing a small party on an island. While there will be a semi-Hawai'i theme to the event, please do not feel that you must be limitted to that theme (in attire or food).

There is "dispersed" camping available here, but I do not feel "up to" hosting this as a "camping event. I also do not wish to accidently excede USFS occupancy limits. That does not mean that you cannot camp near here, just that I am not prepared to have everybody staying in the same site as myself. This is a primative area requiring that everything needed (including drinking water) be brought in, and removed when leaving.

Kayak rentals are available in the area from Bear Valley Cross Country Ski center: (visit link) and Sierra Nevada Adventure Company: (visit link)

There is a primitive launch ramp for small boats. Motors are allowed on Union Reservoir with a 5MPH speed limit. For more info (visit link)

Suggestions to bring along for the day trip:
Food to share, your prefered beverages, sun screen, insect repellant, folding chairs (or expect that you might sit on the ground), floating transport. At this altitude, expect that it could be either hot or cold, and dress appropriately.

No guarantees, but I am open to suggestions. Anybody have any ideas how we can honor the fathers who show up? More details will be posted as they become available.
