Scofield Town Park Multi-Cache

This cache has been archived.

CTReviewer: Greetings from Geocaching.com

I have been looking at caches in the area that have been temporarily disabled for a while now and it looks like your cache has been under the weather for some time. While I feel that Geocaching.com should hold the location for you and block other cachers from entering the area around this cache for a reasonable amount of time I don’t think we can do so any longer. Therefore, I have archived this cache. If you haven’t done so already, please pick up any remaining cache bits as soon as possible.

When repairs to this cache are completed and it is time to have it reposted, it will be no problem. Just drop me a note and let me know the GC waypoint number of the cache or better yet, the URL of the cache page. You will still be able to access your cache page just as before by going to your “My Cache Page” and clicking the link of your cache.

I will be more than happy to take a look at your cache again to see if it is still is within the guidelines of the Geocaching.com website for cache placement and posting.

I want to thank you for the time that you have taken to contribute to geocaching in the past and am looking forward to seeing your cache up and running in the future.

Thanks for your understanding,
CTReviewer

Geocache Description:

Look here another park in Stamford, This Cache is a two part Multi. Some mild climbing is required. The first part is a small micro and the second part is a small container with swag and a little room for other small items. I am not sure how much this park is used but use some stealth for second part. May want to use a car for a shield.

This site used to be a dump and land fill. Now its a nice park tucked away. The land also is where all the leaves in Stamford go in the fall where they are turned by machine to compost. Compost is free for town residence The site also houses Scofield Town Road Recycling Center. I also read something saying that the pond on the right used to be a town swimming pool.
History of site:
Land use at the property prior to the mid-1930s is unknown. From the mid-1930s to the early-1970s, the City of Stamford operated a municipal landfill on the property. The property received only residential waste until 1949, when the property began to accept industrial waste. Wastes were burned in open pits on the property over an unspecified period of time. In 1968, the landfill was closed; however, due to operational problems with an off-site incinerator, wastes continued to be deposited at the landfill until 1970. In 1970, the refuse and fill materials were graded and capped with clean fill, and a recreational park was developed. The landfill is currently unlined and does not have an impermeable cap. Seventeen drums containing a white powder composed of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) and metals were removed from the property in 1987. A 1988 inspection of the property reported the presence of empty rusted drums and drums containing a paint-like residue. Analytical results of a sample collected in 1987 from solid residue in a drum located in the salt storage area indicated the presence of metals and other inorganics. Previous investigations at the property include a 1986 Preliminary Assessment (PA), a 1987 Site Inspection (SI), and a 1996 Site Inspection Prioritization (SIP).
