Geocache Description:

A short multi-cache intending to get the cacher to visit Titchfield Abbey. Post co-ordinates ARE NOT final cache location. Cache is a 0.4 litre cliplock style box in a camo bag. Contains small child friendly swaps and logbook. Please bring pen/pencil to sign the log. Parking available at the Abbey, but not at final cache location.

17-05-2010: Check the note beside point two before you head for the cache. If you still have issues please let me know and I will happily provide the answer.

After adopting Abbey View (GC1AF6T) from Mogwai Liz, I couldn't help but feel the location needed a larger cache hide. Hence Abbey View II.

To complete the cache you will need to pay a visit to Titchfield Abbey, answer a few (very) easy questions and then take a stroll to the final cache location approximately half a mile away. The Abbey itself is very wheelchair and stroller friendly, but the path to the final location can be difficult and slightly muddy during or after rain.

Of course, the clues and the final location do not need to be visited in the same period and two visits are perfectly possible.

The Abbey itself is only open at the following times:

06 April - 30 Sept 10am - 5pm
01 October - 20 March 10am - 4pm.

Titchfield Abbey is closed 24-26 December and 01 January but open every other day of the year. Entry to the Abbey is free of charge.

To get the final location you will need to visit several places within the Abbey and answer the following.

Final cache location is in the format

N BI BA.LFE W IJK GF.BEH

Go to N50 51.393
When was Titchfield Abbey granted to Thomas Wriothesley? Answer = ABC7

***PLEASE NOTE: Plaque for the below question has been missing for some months. I was expecting the owners to replace but to date they have not bothered. The answer to this question can be found on the associated web page before you leave.***
Now go to N50 51.398 W001 13.868
Peter Des Roches, Bishop of Winchester founded the Abbey in what year? Answer = DEFG

Next, go to N50.51.428 W001 13.887
Stand at the coordinates facing South. Not including the towers, how many windows (individual panes) are directly facing you between the two towers? Answer = KL Answer = KL

Finally, go to N50 51.426 W001 13.894
How long were the medieval tiles covered and preserved before being re-discovered by excavation in 1923? Answer = HIJ

You should now have all the clues for the final cache location. Please be careful of the road, it can be very busy. You can, on the way past, log Abbey View (GC1AF6T) if you haven't already!
