Geocache Description:

Off blue trail between black pond and old ski area.

This is our first hide. We named it after our bestest hiking dog, Bear. We had fun decorating the ammo box. There are 3 ways to get to this one - 1) via the blue trail from route 68 in Durham heading north, 2) via the blue trail from Black Pond heading south, or 3) you can take a trail from the back side of Lake Beseck and hike up the side of the mountain on an old jeep trail.

If attempting from the Lake Beseck location there is a good parking option due to the efforts of a local Scout that has launched a doggie park in the area. Coordinates for parking here are N41 30.708, W072 44.217. From these parking coordinates, catch the yellow blazed trail at N41 30.658, W072 44.230 - Half-way up the yellow blazed trail will take a left off the main trail going steeply up hill. For a more steep hike, take the yellow trail to the left but don't continue to follow it when the blazes start heading downhill, instead follow the deer path SW and the cache is not far off (from the cache site you can see a bypass trail that while heading south connects to the blue trail in short order).

If you want a more gentle uphill continuation instead of taking the steep uphill yellow blazing, follow the wider trail to the top. You will come to a "frog pond" or mud puddle however you want to look at it at the top. At the east end there is a place to cross and not get wet. If you haven't found the ridgeline incident cache and if it's still active you can get a 2fer going this way. Continue heading west to hit the blue trail and then follow your gps southerly to Bear's Booty. You will have to come off trail but you can do it easier if you look for a bypass trail to get closer rather than bushwacking straight to it.

There is an inactivated travel bug tag set for first to find. Happy Hunting.

This is our first hide but we have several more prepped and will be finding homes for them soon so if you have any comments on how we can improve from this posting your feedback is welcomed – thanks for visiting!
