Geocache Description:

Quick, two part, P&G. The Cache is about 50 yards away with its coordinates printed under the lid of a metal box at listed coordinates. P.S. the metal box is NOT the old jail.

This cache is available 24/7. Located Half a block from U.S. Hwy 60 and about eight blocks from U.S. Hwy 169 on Pine Street in Nowata, Oklahoma. The city of Nowata is the county seat of Nowata County. Now a sleepy little bedroom community, in its hayday Nowata was a thriving oil boomtown complete with hotels, banks, restaurants and bars. Weekdays were devoted to finding oil, getting it out of the ground and making money. Saturday nights were devoted to letting off steam. A block and a half away is a sign proclaiming “Radium Water Baths” (our next cache project.) If you weren’t in Nowata to “partake of the waters”, you were probably involved with oil or ranching. The guys that did the work in either occupation might well have spent Saturday night “sleeping it off” in the city’s roughneck motel pictured above.

This two parter will only take 5 to 10 minutes if you are short on time. Ample parking available. Coordinates point to a metal box in a boneyard of antique oil field equipment. The actual cache is about 50 yards North. Cache coordinates are printed under the lid of a metal box that just begged to hold a cache, but is too open to vandalism. No, the “metal box” is NOT the old jail (Saturday night accomodations for roudy oil patch roughnecks.)

The cache is a plastic box painted black to match its hiding place. The cache has trade goods, including booty for the kids. There is also a camera to leave us a snap shot of you and party.

Located, with permission, on the grounds of the Nowata Historical Society Museum, the cache is always available. Not much stelth required, it is not unusual for visitors to look around the outdoor displays. The, volunteer staffed, museum building is open most weekday afternoons. Feel free to stop in and browse a bit. There is no charge, though they do cheerfully accept small (or even large) donations.
