The Balsham Sign
In 1010 the village of Balsham was destroyed by Viking raiders. There was only one survivor of the massacre, a man called Jack Balsham, who hid in the church tower to avoid the raiders. That's why the Balsham sign features a man running up the steps.

The Balsham Ploughmen drag a plough around the village on the first Monday after Twelfth Night. They are accompanied by the Cambridge Morris Men and raise money for local charities. They always end up for a drink in the Black Bull and observe a minute's silence at the Plough in memory of Jim Daniels, who organised the revival of this old tradition in the 1970's.
