Geocache Description:

The Hookstown Fairgrounds plays host to the aptly named Hookstown Fair. The fair is usually held during the middle of August right before the school year begins. The fair features rides, music, a demolition derby, tractor pulls, and all the other usual fair fare.

Within the confines of the fairground is the South Side Historical Village. The village is home to the Mercer Schoolhouse, the J.L. Porter Blacksmith Shop, a reconstructed log cabin, and a number of other restored buildings. The village is open to the public during the Hookstown Fair and other special events.

The cache is hidden on Greene Township property across the road from the fairgrounds. The township has placed some benches, planted some trees, and established a little-used walking area on this former farmland. Near the cache is a corn crib that has been converted into a covered bridge as well as an old spring. Find the cache and you should enjoy a fair view of the fairgrounds.

Coordinates for parking at the fairgrounds are provided. Be careful when crossing Route 30 since it is a busy road.

5/27/2012 Update: The township has improved the dirt road leading to the cache. It is no longer necessary to park on the other side of Route 30. Rather, drive up the dirt road leading to the cache.
