Moss Bank Park Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Foinavon: Sorry to say it has gone. The rhoddendendrons roots that it was hidden under have gone as well. I am not going to replace this as to be honest it wasn't one of my better locations.

Geocache Description:

Today I did a rather rare thing in that I archived one of my caches. Its only the second physical cache of mine that I have archived myself. I had a box with me to put a new one out in Smithills Hall but I could not find anywhere I liked so it ended up here instead!

I have visited Moss Bank Park all my life. As a child I loved to play in the rock garden and the wall garden. When I was older I actually used to work here and now I bring my own kids. So much of my caching is in parks, I know them very well and there a few nicer ones than this. What Moss Bank Park has lacked is any caches. It did have one for a while but that is now long archived. I have looked and looked and its not the easiest of places to find anywhere even for micros. However today I finaly found somewhere I could place a Tupperware Box! If you park in the top car park its virtually a drive by but I hope you will stay and look at the park as well!

Attractions in Moss Bank Park (all free of charge)

The Rock Garden My favourite place as a child. Its not
always open but if it is don't miss it. In the middle of the rock garden is a memorial tree to King George V. It was planted during his reign.
The Rock Garden in 1920

Old English Walled Garden Lots of parks have these, this
is very similar to the one in Haigh Hall.

Animal World Nice minature zoo. The star attraction seems to be the peacock, but I like the chipmunks. One thing you wil notice at the end of animal world is a large tower. This was built as an astronomical observartory in the 19th Century.

Butterfly World If you are a lepidopteran then this is the place for you. When I went in today with Max I saw the biggest butterfly I have ever seen. I didn't realise they came that big!

Barrow Bridge Chimney More of a well known landmark than an attraction. There is a funny story attached to this. One christmas day Bolton's late and much missed steeplejack Fred Dibnah was a bit bored so he decided to do some work on this chimney. He was up with his tools in no time. However people assumed that the only reason someone would go up a chimney on Christmas day would be with the intention to jump off it! Shortly a load of policemen with megaphones arrived hoping to talk him down!
