Wicker’s Hike is a walk from Old Betts over Knowl Moor, Rooley
Moor, Cowpe Moss and Scout Moor, with plenty of stunning views and
interesting sites.
I planned to put down 4 or 5 caches but integrated some micros
to try and keep you on track as it’s easy to get lost. There’s some
disused quarries and peat land off the track. The first third of
the Hike is quite straight forward.
After cache 2 follow the path to the stile into the woods to get
down the hill (nice and steep so in the wet you’ll probably grab
some branches same as me) and then follow your instincts.
The second third is mostly on a cobbled track and is easy
enough. Later on this stage on Rossendale Way you’ll go through a
disused quarry. The final third is straight forward. Stay on the
Rossendale Way until you get to the stile down the hill to cache 8,
again follow your instincts back to the last 2 and your car!
There’s 4 other caches on this route dropped by M0sgb,
Rose-Thorn, Madwozle and Team Falcon. They can easily be
incorporated.
I would advise that you take an Ordnance Survey Map (OL21) as
Memory Map lacks detail if you are taking short cuts. And plenty of
water in summer – it may take you 4 hours to complete this
series.
Happy Trecking and Caching !!
