A large cache on Mosquito Lake, this is not a piece of cake. A patch of land is the cache's home, on Snake Island, as it is known. A floating vessel you will need; accessible by boat, canoe, kayak or PWC. Mandatory shoes but no barefeet, for a short hike in the cold or heat. (Winter invites cross country skiiers, or careful hikers to gain access to the island).
Snake Island is located north of the State Route 88 causeway on Mosquito Lake in Trumbull County. The Causeway Sport Shop rents boats and is on the northeast side of S.R. 88. There is also a ramp on the south side of 88 if your boat will fit under the causeway.
The closest place is a primitive ramp (no cement), off Mahan Denman Rd. This is northwest of S.R. 88. Turn north at Monty's until you get to Mahan Denman which only runs west. There is no road sign but it is spray painted on the back of the stop sign. Turn east on the gravel road to the ramp. Lots of parking and mosquitos.
Once launched, travel south toward the island. This is the first island you will see, closer to the west side of the lake than the east.
The nearest place to dock on the island, ijn proximity to the cache is at N41 24.511, W80 45.796 which is on the west side of the island.
The bottom is sandy and it's about 3' deep. Depth fluctuates though. It's a short but jagged walk from there. There is the start of a trail then look for a big cluster of trees and the usual cache cover.

*Caution during hunting seasons.
Respect State Park Rules: no swimming unless designated, 15 mph limit north of 88, no access permitted on the game reserve marked by bouys, do no alter existing vegetation (no cutting, painting, etc.), no burning, overnight mooring and camping prohibited. When the cache was placed there was a tent on the property. Therefore, it is recommended that it be avoided. To open, push tab down and turn.
