I grew up in Mackay, and wanted to place a cache somewhere nearby. I wanted to place it someplace interesting, and felt this pioneer cemetery would be a good spot. The cemetery contains a concrete grave marker with the names of several people killed in a nearby battle in 1878. The cache is a film canister sized container with a log only. It can be accessed by turning off highway 93 next to the brown 'Battleground Cemetery' sign and following the road to the cemetery. Those with lower clearance vehicles may prefer to exit the highway at the sportsmen's access about a quarter mile south of the sign, then driver down to the boat launch area and make a short hike up the hill to the cemetery. It is possible to retrieve the cache from outside the cemetery's boundary fence.
