Geocache Description:

The Intro: (NOTE: The posted starting coordinates are bogus and the true start is listed below at WayPoint #1... Now queue music…) The Ultimate answer to Life, the Universe and Everything is… (You’re not going to like it…) Is… 42. Which suggests that what you really need to know is ‘What was the Question?’. Notes: -Difficulty/Terrain: 42. -Waypoint terrain is simple; grass and dirt paths. -Final location is overgrown with thorns but should be easy enough for kids.

The Goal:

In this cache adventure you play the role of hapless Cachehiker of the Galaxy. You're swept up in this great adventure where you are seeking the ultimate question of questions to the answer you unfortunately now know, 42.

The Quest:

As cachehiker, if you accept to persue this adventure, you will need to cachehike the “Great Caching Galaxy” and hitch a ride on six unsuspecting caches. You will progress through your journey by utilizing your whit, your towel and your Guide “The Cachehiker’s Guide to the Caching Galaxy”, or more commonly known to us cachehikers as geocaching.com and its portible cousin, the GPS…

The Perils:

Along your adventure you will face great perils but “Don’t Panic”, the caches you hitch a ride on are full of muggles but they are listed in your Guide as “Mostly Harmless”. But you must try to avoid them otherwise they may kick you off the cache and destroy your only avenue in hitching to your goal. The Warning: Be forewarned, much of the contributions (or what we call logs) to the Guide are made on a strictly ad-hoc basis. “With the permanent staff more likely to be on a lunch break than working, “most of the actual work got done by any passing stranger who happened to wander into the “caches” on an afternoon and saw something worth doing." This has led to the Guide being patchy in its coverage, cobbled together and though it cannot hope to be useful or informative on all matters, it does make the reassuring claim that where it is inaccurate, it is at least definitively inaccurate. In cases of major discrepancy it was always reality that's got it wrong.” So trust your Guide/PGPS or trust your instincts – its up to you and its all you have… well, except for the numerous directions below…

The Instructions:

Below you will find a list of six unsuspecting caches that you must hitch a ride on. You will be presented with a list of six waypoint coordinates, a list of six caches to hitch, and a list of six clues. Don’t Panic, the six waypoints are all in close proximity although the final cache site is a bit more than 5 miles away near another popular Tiger Point complex similar to the waypoint site so beware of the travel distance. So get your Bable Fish and use the CacheHiker’s Guide’s information and scribblings below to help make sense of your quest and to guide you along your quest.

(1)Go to first Waypoint

(2)Take # retrieved from Waypoint, Go to this Cache #

(3)Take Waypoint # (not retrieved #), Place it in the empty space in the cache name - Some #'s will be converted to (L)etters (A=1...) (Go to next waypoint, go to step 2)

(4)Go to Geocaching.com; look up all of the Caches and retrieve their names. Please note that this may require an extra trip home by you to look up this information. There is a library nearby the first waypoints that you could use; when it is open of course (and it also has a cache inside!).

(5)Go to first clue

(6)Match clue with cache name

(7)Hitch a ride on that cache and retrieve the specified two numbers from the cache's coordinates - (N) AB° CD.EFG (W) HIJ° KL.MNO

(8)Place these numbers in the final cache's coordinates empty spaces, starting at the beginning (Go to next clue, go to step 6)

The WayPoints:

(WayPoint # 1)N 30° 21.474 W 087° 10.694 (L)

(2)N 30° 21.410 W 087° 10.687 (L)

(3)N 30° 21.453 W 087° 10.640 (#)

(4)N 30° 21.471 W 087° 10.638 (#)

(5)N 30° 21.475 W 087° 10.669 (#)

(6)N 30° 21.455 W 087° 10.660 (L)

The Caches: (Note: you will not need to physically go to these caches. You'll need to retrieve a portion of their coordinates from www.geocaching.com which all together will build the final cache’s coordinates.)

(Cache #1)GC1M_N6

(2)GCN_W3

(3)GCH_43

(4)GC1_WGT

(5)GCPT_1

(6)GCPT_G

The Clues:

(Clue # 1)Somebody who can stay in control of virtually any situation is somebody who is said to know where his or her towel is. “What the strag will think is that any man who can hitch the length and breadth of the “caching” galaxy, rough it, slum it, struggle against terrible odds, win through, and still knows where his towel “(or the cache)” is, is clearly a man to be reckoned with.” (KL)

(2)“The last ever dolphin message was misinterpreted as a surprisingly sophisticated attempt to do a double-backwards-somersault through a hoop whilst whistling the 'Star Spangled Banner', but in fact the message was this: So long and thanks for all the fish.” (DE)

(3)“Forty-two," said Deep Thought, with infinite majesty and calm. "The Answer to the Great Question, of Life, the Universe and Everything" (FG)

(4)Where would you find the following: 0-330-25864-8? (IJ)

(5)“[The CacheHiker's Guide to the Galaxy] looked insanely complicated, and this was one of the reasons why the snug plastic cover it fitted into had the words DON'T PANIC printed on it in large friendly letters.” (LM)

(6)“He had found a Nutri-Matic machine which had provided him with a plastic cup filled with a liquid that was almost, but not quite, entirely unlike tea.” (CD)

The FINAL CACHE COORDINATES: N _ _° _ _.3 _ _ W 0 _ _° _ _.6 _ _

The Cache:

The cache is a well stocked cammo painted ammo box. I plan to keep this cache well stocked with good kid-friendly items so bring items ready to trade. I hope you enjoy the challenge and the find. Please review the cache as its contents provide additional information pertaining to the cache and its original contents.
