In 1990 there was risk that this significant skyline might have
houses built on it and June Rowland and other concerned citizens
formed KEA to combat what was seen as the threat of wholesale
development on our coastal plains.
Their aim was to help protect, restore and preserve natural
places in Kapiti that are under the threat of development,
especially the fragile coastline. KEA many success were achieved by
active advocacy, written submissions to the council and taking
cases to the Environment Court
Thanks to June Rowland and the members of KEA a rich legacy of
environment initiatives have being left for the people of
Kapiti
