About a half mile walk to this cache on rough paths through wood and across clearings. Uneven surfaces and some steep parts not suitable for buggies or wheelchairs.
This cache is near the site of the well in Hollywell Wood. Also known as Holywell. The origin of the well is unknown but it was originally the source of water to a number of houses on Upper Common, Aylburton, including my own where a pump in the front garden was the only source of mains water for many years.
A previous resident who still lives locally recalls the dry summers when, as a small girl, the pump would go dry and she would have to walk to the well with a bucket to collect water beforre going to school. The pipe to the house still works and there is a tap in the front garden from it.
The well cannot be seen from the cache and is hidden in a mass of brambles but that is not the reason for placing the cache here. Rather it is the fantastic view all the way from this site back to the old severn bridge and beyond. In addition the woods contain wild daffodils in March/April, Bluebells and Orchids. Deer are common here too, and this is a favourite spot for watching Buzzards cruising the thermals in summer.
The cache can be approached from a number of different locations but please remember to park considerately, and be aware that some of the smaller roads around here are private (but are marked as such where this is the case.)
The cache is a large cliplock container. Please ensure it is well hidden when replacing as this is a popular spot.
