The Deam Wilderness Watering Hole Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

Hoosier_Reviewer: Attention cache owner,

It has been brought to my attention that the Charles C. Deam Wilderness area now prohibits geocaching.

The land managers have requested that we archive all active caches and prohibit all new caches. If you feel that there is an error and your cache isn't on their property, please email me at Hoosierreviewer@gmail.com

Thanks,

Hoosier Reviewer

Geocache Description:

You are looking for a waterproof matchstick container.   This isn't your average micro in the woods, which I try to avoid. This cache is easily spotted, but you might have to use your brain to retrieve it.

This cache is located in the beautiful Charles C. Deam Wilderness.  This wilderness area is 12,935 acres of forest, full of wildlife of all sorts.  The abundance of wildlife in the area is impressive: 50 species of mammals, 142 bird species, 36 reptilian, 28 amphibian species, 125 fish, and they're finding more species all the time.  The Deam also has almost 40 miles of trails, from which to observe the wildlife, hike, camp, fish, hunt, or even geocache!

Over the last few years quite a few geocaches have been placed in the area, some of which require a few hours hike to reach.  My preferred way to travel in the area is on foot with a 30lb pack on my back, but if you want you could also travel by horse on most of the trails.  When I'm out here, I am always sure to bring plenty of water.  Whether it be for myself, or for someone, or something else, water is essential for hiking in the wilderness.  I always bring a couple liters for myself and my dog, plus I carry a water filtration kit just in case.  There are plenty of streams and ponds scattered across the area, so if you have a way to filter out the impurities you'll be in great shape.  This cache is located near one of those small ponds in case you need some water. So even if you don't bring water, you should bring something to collect water in, just in case.
