The eleventh challenge cache is:
History Series Challenge

  1. The popular movie "The Matrix" is released
  2. A Lockheed Titan 4-A rocket took off from Cape Canaveral with a military communications satellite aboard. An upper stage malfunctioned, marooning the satellite in the wrong orbit.
  3. The Arecibo Observatory in Arecibo, Puerto Rico, with the largest radio telescope ever constructed, officially opens.
  4. United States Air Force Academy opens in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
  5. The North American XB-70 Valkyrie, the world's first Mach 3 bomber, made its maiden flight from Palmdale, California.
  6. NASA launches Space Shuttle Endeavour on STS-47 which marked the 50th shuttle mission. On board are Mae Carol Jemison, the first African-American woman in space, Mamoru Mohri, the first Japanese citizen to fly in a US spaceship, and Mark Lee and Jan Davis, the first married couple in space.
  7. The Explorer 2 spacecraft launches and fails to reach Earth orbit.
  8. The first deep space mission by any country other than the United States and the Soviet Union is launched; Sakigake by Japan
  9. Treaty banning Nuclear Weapon Tests known as the Partial Test Ban Treaty (PTBT) is signed by the United States, United Kingdom, and the Soviet Union.
  10. Sally Murphy became the first woman to qualify as an aviator with the U.S. Army.
  11. French President Jacques Chirac announced that he would break a three-year moratorium and resume nuclear testing in French Polynesia. France planned to conduct eight underground tests in the South Pacific or French Polynesia, particularly in Mururoa Atoll.
  12. The SR-71 Blackbird sets (and holds) the record for flying from New York to London: 1 hour 54 minutes and 56.4 seconds.
