La ricerca del cache vi condurrà a vedere vecchi palazzi e antiche viuzze di Sondrio, in un facile percorso a piedi di circa un’oretta, che potrete compiere in qualsiasi stagione.
Vicino a molti waypoint troverete utili informazioni turistiche, per meglio conoscere i luoghi e la loro storia.
Le coordinate iniziali corrispondono al punto di partenza a piedi.
Le coordinate del cache, indicate qui sotto, sono incomplete: durante il percorso dovete risolvere i quiz per determinare le corrispondenti cifre segnate dalle lettere A,B,C,D,E,F,G.

Nella piccola piazza si trova l’omonimo palazzo: consigliamo la visita del grazioso cortiletto interno
1° Quiz - Lettera A : sulla piazzetta si affaccia un negozio di:
Imboccate ora la stretta via Romegialli lungo la quale potrete ammirare, sulla parete di un edificio, l’affresco “Incoronazione della Vergine” attribuito a P.Ligari (XVIII sec.) e recentemente restaurato.
Attraversato il ponte sul Mallero, raggiungete piazza Cavour, più nota ai Sondriesi come piazza Vecchia. Da qui dovete percorrere la Salita Ligari sul lato nord della piazza: si tratta di una lunga scalinata (vedere foto 3)
2° Quiz – Lettera B: i gradini della scalinata sono:
La salita termina in località Il Crap: ora lasciatevi condurre dal vostro GPS fino al vecchio lavatoio, ancora oggi utilizzato dalla gente della contrada, poi risalite la breve, ma ripida Via Benaducci. Arrivate così in un bel punto panoramico. Osservate attentamente il cartello Vista sulla città e sul quartiere Scarpatetti posto sul muro all’inizio della scalinata e risolvete il….
3° Quiz – Lettera C: le contrade segnalate sono:
Bene, è il momento di scendere … la Salita Schenardi, cioè la scalinata vicino alla quale vi trovate e che vi condurrà facilmente nel bel mezzo del quartiere Scarpatetti che prende il nome dall’omonima famiglia la cui presenza in Sondrio è attestata fin dal 1352: il quartiere ha mantenuto quasi intatte le caratteristiche di rione rurale.
Ammirate ora una delle tre cappellette del quartiere.
Gli abitanti venerano la Madonna con Gesù Bambino che vedete rappresentati da una statua lignea (sec. XVII) e in occasione della tradizionale festa, la terza domenica di settembre, vestono la statua con ricchi paramenti ricamati in oro ….
4° Quiz – Lettera D: il tipico frutto valtellinese in mano alla Madonna e al Bambino è:
Ora potete scendere lungo la via principale dove si affacciano corti rustiche e vecchie case contadine con ballatoi in legno che le conferiscono un piacevole aspetto di paese più che di borgo cittadino. Passando tra i muri di antiche case giungerete ben presto in Piazza Quadrivio, da sempre uno dei crocevia principali del centro storico, tra le piazze della città sicuramente quella che più ha mantenuto l’aspetto antico (nei documenti d’archivio è nominata come “Quadrobbio”, forse da “carrobbio” in relazione al passaggio di carri).
Una volta la bella fontana con vasca monolitica si trovava in mezzo alla piazza, ora invece è decentrata…
5° Quiz – Lettera E: l’acqua della fontana sgorga dalla bocca di quattro:
Dirigetevi ora verso la Piazza Campello, ammirando, lungo il percorso, Palazzo Sassi con il Museo di Storia Valtellinese e il bel giardino che ne porta il nome.
Sulla piazza si affaccia Palazzo Pretorio, sede del Municipio; entrate e ammirate il cortile interno, circondato su due lati da un portico sormontato da logge con bellissime decorazione realizzate con una tecnica tipica della valle: il graffito grigio.
6° Quiz – Lettera F: sopra l’antico portale d’ingresso realizzato nel 1553 ci sono un balcone e due stemmi recanti l’indicazione di una data; una delle seguenti NON è presente
La caccia alle cifre incognite delle coordinate necessarie per trovare il cache si conclude a Palazzo Martinengo…
7° Quiz Lettera G: il palazzo fu edificato nel
Ora dovreste avere tutte le indicazioni per raggiungere la meta finale: il sospirato cache!
Dopo averlo scovato e aver firmato il log, ricordatevi di fare molta attenzione a rimetterlo ESATTAMENTE come l’avete trovato. L'unica difficoltà può essere rappresentata dalla presenza di muggles e di occhi indiscreti; per questo motivo abbiamo innalzato a 2 il livello di difficoltà.

Searching this cache will give you the opportunity to see the old part of Sondrio, walking through narrow streets, by following an easy path for a duration of about one hour.
Close to many waypoints, you will find useful information on different places and their history, written on tourist metal signs (sorry: they are in Italian only!).
The coordinates are referred to the starting point of the walk.
The final coordinates of the cache, as written below, are incomplete: during the tour you will be asked to answer some easy questions (Quiz) to determine the corresponding figures to the letters A, B, C, D, E, F, G.

Starting point - Piazzetta Carbonera (N 46° 10.311 E 009° 52.088)
In this small square, you will see the Carbonera building: we recommend to visit its charming interior court, before starting with the first Quiz:
Quiz 1 - Letter A: The shop in the square sells:
Now go through the Romegialli street. After a short walk , you will get to a building, which has on its wall the fresco "Coronation of the Virgin" (Waypoint VS1), ascribed to P. Ligari (XVIII sec.).
Then continue your walk, cross the bridge over the Mallero river, and reach Piazza Cavour, better known as Piazza Vecchia. (Waypoint VS2).
Move to the north side of the square and go up the long staircase, called Salita Ligari (See photo 3). While raising, don’t forget to count the steps, because you must answer the following question then...
2nd Quiz - Letter B: How many steps does the staircase have?
From the top of the staircase, move to the “Il Crap” place (Waypoint VS3): now, let the GPS guide you to the old fountain (Waypoint VS4), still used by the local women as a laundry. Then go through the short but steep Via Benaducci to reach a very nice panoramic point. After having looked around, go to the tourist metal sign “Vista sulla città e sul quartiere Scarpatetti” (Waypoint VS5), look carefully and respond....
3rd Quiz - Letter C: how many times do you see the word “Contrada” written on the sign?
Well, it's time to get down ... the Salita (ascent) Schenardi, the staircase next to where you are now. It will led you into the middle of the Sondrio oldest neighbourhood; its name, Scarpatetti, comes from an old family that resided in this part of Sondrio since 1352.
The quarter has maintained the characteristics of a rural neighbourhood.
Now stop in front of one of three chapels placed in this neighbourhood: the “Madonna con Gesù Bambino” chapel (Waypoint VS6). In this chapel, there is an interesting wooden statue (XVII) of the Madonna, which, during the traditional feast recurring every year on the third September Sunday, is dressed with rich vestments, embroidered with gold.
Now look at the statue and answer the following Quiz
4th Quiz - Letter D: the “typical” fruit grown in Valtellina, which is hold by Madonna and her son, is:
Your walk can now proceed along the main street which is surrounded by courts and rustic old houses, with wooden balconies; in a few minutes you will reach Piazza Quadrivio (Waypoint VS7).
This pretty square was one of the main crossroads in the Sondrio historical centre and has maintained its ancient look.
In the past, the beautiful fountain with the monolithic basin, was positioned in the centre of the square, but unfortunately it was then moved from there to favour the traffic (sigh!) ...

5th Quiz - Letter E: The fountain water (you can drink it: it’s very good and fresh) flows from the mouth of four:
A short walk will get you to Piazza Campello (Waypoint VS8). Along the path, have a look to Palazzo Sassi (on the right side), with the local History Museum, and the beautiful garden (on the left side) where you can relax for a while.
In Piazza Campello there is the “Palazzo Pretorio”, the Town Hall (Waypoint VS8); get into the nice court and have a look around.
The next question is:
6th Quiz - Letter F: above the ancient portal, built in the year 1553, there is a balcony with two painted crests, each of them showing a date; what is the date NOT shown there?
The collection of all the elements to assemble the cache coordinates is close to its end...just move to Palazzo Martinengo (Waypoint VS9) and find the answer to the final question....
7th Quiz Letter G: the palace Martinengo was built during:
Now you should have all the information to reach the final goal: the long-awaited cache!
After having found it (hopefully) and signed the log, please remember to put it back EXACTLY where it was positioned.
The only difficulty in the search is the possible presence of muggles and prying eyes. That’s why we have increased the difficulty level to 2.
