A cache located near the Slavanka cemetery, a stop on the
Riverlands Self-Guided Heritage Tour. You might want gloves. Be
sure to go into the Cemetery House and sign their Guest
Book.
This cemetery was established in 1901 by the Doukhobors living
in the vicinity of the former Slavanka village, also called
Slavianka. After the abandonment of the Slavanka village in 1911
the cemetery continued to be used by the residents of the Slavanka
School District No. 2279 (1912-1956). The cemetery contains 100
internments of which approximately 34 have no marker and have been
leveled. The cemetery house has been decorated in the style of the
early Doukhobour settlers. There is a cairn there honouring the
early Doukhobours erected by their descendents.
