Geocache Description:

A small camo'ed Lock & Lock.

Trailhead cache for geocaches in the Chalat Wildlife Management Area (WMA) west of the Appalachian Trail (AT) corridor. WMA Map

From Rt. 8 in Cheshire turn into Bedard Bros. Auto Sales and take an immediate right onto the dirt road. You will see signs for the WMA at the yellow gate. If the gate is closed there is parking for more than 10 cars on the side of the road. Please do not block the gate or the private driveway.

The Pink Trail is a short loop without steep hills or stream crossings. We’ve placed caches there with the youngest of geocachers in mind.

The White Trail is a 2.4 mile loop of easy, winter friendly caches. One of the "trails" isn't really a trail but it's well marked and only 300 ft. long. I recommend hiking the loop clockwise for a more gradual uphill hike. After heavy rains the stream crossings can be tricky.

In the WMA but not on the White or Pink Trails we have placed a few other caches, various difficulty ratings as well as various terrain ratings.

From the WMA parking area the first trail to the right has been badly blocked by the Forestry Service to keep ATV’s out of this area. There is no need to take this trail. You can get to all of our caches by going slightly left from the parking area, over the wooden bridge and up the hill.

There is severe ice storm damage in this area. With the exception of War Zone we have kept our caches out of the damaged area. While there are many leaning branches we have checked for hanging branches known as “Widow Makers”. If you see any we’ve missed please let us know. The biggest difference between a leaning branch and a hanging branch is whether or not you can walk under it without seeing it.

There is only minor damage between the White Trail and the AT. The AT itself has been cleared. No need to bushwhack in the AT Corridor, you will be following a well established trail. You will pass close to Pull Out Gently (GC1DVKG) on your way to the AT.

From the White Trail you can get to Hidey Hole Heaven (GCND6N) and Brookback Mountain (GC1DVKB) but you will be going through the damaged area.

There are also two letterboxes in the area.
