Geocache Description:

Smiley’s Place (GCNH8W) by the racoon ramblers was our very first cache find in the spring of 2006. It was only a few minutes away from our home (as well as a few minutes up the Meander River). The cache description included the following information:

“Cache is located in a Provincial Park (visit link) . Need to walk from gate when picnic park is not open (Oct - May). Otherwise can park in picnic area. Most of the route is on park roads and trails. Good spot for kids on bikes and strollers. Final leg is on a walking-only trail in the back area of the park.
Park is near Brooklyn, Hants County. There are several routes to it, the easiest is probably Route 14 from Brooklyn to Clayton McKay Road. Park entrance is at approx. 45 00.850 -63 57.683.
Once in park, walk on main road until you pass the huge pine tree with the bench (45 00.663 -63 58.285). There are several entrances to the walking trail. One is near the swings that you can see from the big pine. Another is off the road that bears north from the pine, although the start at this end is a little more difficult to locate. If you get to the Boy Scout sign, you have gone too far.”

The original Smiley’s Place hiding spot was altered during trail maintenance in the park and the cache was lost as a result. Earlier this year we found a good alternative hiding spot that is winter friendly and only a few feet away from the original cache location. We offered to replace the cache, post the new cords, and help with maintenance, since the racoon ramblers had moved to a different province. It was suggested that we should publish the cache as a new listing, since several aspects of the original cache had changed. So here it is… Smiley’s Place Reborn. The cache container is now a 1 kg. peanut butter jar covered in camo duct tape, containing a log book, pencils and some themed swag. There is also an unactivated FTF geocoin that glows in the dark for the lucky cacher that gets there first. Enjoy!

Thank you to the Nova Scotia Department of Natural Resources (Windsor Office) for permission to hide this cache.
