Geocache Description:

A massive Z-plan castle in the Scottish Borders, Drochil Castle was built by James Douglas, Earl of Morton, Regent of Scotland. It was not completed before his execution in 1581 for his part in the death of Henry, Lord Darnley, husband of Mary Queen of Scots. It was used for some time after his death, however, and now belongs to the Earl Of Wemyss.

The building is in a dangerous condition and is not open to the public. I have placed the cache at a distance away from the castle so that it can be viewed safely.
