Geocache Description:

Killesk Castle, Campile, County Wexford.

This castle is actually a fortified church. It was used as a place of sanctuary by the local monks before Dunbrody Abbey had acquired better defences.

Killesk or Cill Uisce means 'the church near the water', as there is a stream nearby. It has two main parts, the defensive tower and the church. The main stone used was sandstone, shale and a little granite.

It was built by the De Monte Marisco family, founders of Dunbrody Abbey. It was called a 'church of ease', meaning it was not the main church but was used by people living far from Dunbrody.

Killesk is located approximately 3km east of Campile, south of the Waterford/Rosslare rail line.

The cache is a very small square camouflaged tupperware box. Please open carefully. BYOP.
