This cache was placed for an upcoming event for the new cacher in the family GPS_JUNKY 4. The event was on May 30th. 2009. Just placed to have some new caches in the area for people like "DOC" who got them all from the area all ready. Not quite a P & G but close too it. Tried to hide 20 caches today so the cords might be a little off. If they are, post your cords. I will get updated right away. Oh yea, I didn't have any pens to put in cache, so bring your own.

MANAGEMENT: Largemouth bass are abundant, and a moderate northern pike population is present. Muskellunge are also present in moderate numbers, bolstered by frequent stocking since 1988. Panfish are abundant-to-common; bluegills run average to slightly below average in size. Dense weed growth hinders fishing and other recreational activities on parts of the flowage during the summer. Approximately 1,200 muskellunge fingerlings are stocked in even-numbered years. The flowage has not been surveyed since 1987.
FISHING INFORMATION: Comprising some 640 acres of shallow water in southern polk county, this impoundment was created before the turn of the century by damming the Apple River. people would have a hard time getting away with such a thing today, of course. There'd be a lengthy permit process, and there'd likely be a public hearing or five, with hords of people showing up to protest disturbance of a natural shoreline. It would be hard to argue, however, that the Apple River dam wasn't a good idea. For damming the river created a reservoir, to be sure, and, in the process, it created a pretty nice fishery. The Apple River Flowage, in fact, is now a lake that is smaller than the biggies of the county, but one that compares quite nicely with the likes of Deer and Bone in terms of fish production. That's especially true in the case of muskies, for stocking fish have taken hold, are reproducing naturally, and offer excellent angling opportunities. The population, in fact - augmented as it is with alternate-year DNR stocking - is nearly as dense as that in Bone. And, according to Risk Cornelius, area DNR fisheries manager until 2002, the chances of tying into a big muskie on the flowage are better than they are in some of the larger muskie waters. For there's better cover in Apple, and forage and water conditions produce large fish. there's a "bonus" to this fishery too. It gets about half the fishing and recreational pressure that the larger lakes do; that helps the size structure and leaves more fish to be caught by you. The lake's northern section is one large weed flat, according to Genny Carlin, owner of Gen's Bait and Sport Shop, Highway 46 N., Amery, WI 54001, (715) 268-6231. You'll want to fish this lake early with a #5 Mepps before it becomes weed choked, and you might give some attention to the smaller weedy or stump filled bays (SPOT 1). Later, fish the weedlines and wood near the 10-foot level. And don't ignore the areas around the islands (SPOT 2); they can be productive, as well. Finally, throw a bucktail or Rapala toward the back=curves behind the points. these areas can produce some big ones. You'll find northern pike, bass and panfish in the flowage, in addition to the muskies, says Carlin. She recommends working the pads with weedless spoons, spinner-baits, or plastic frogs/worms. Bluegills here are on the small side. However, there are a few nice crappies. A jig/minnow combination at the deeper breaks and weedlines can get some action. Pay particular attention to the two 15-foot slots (SPOT 3). You'll find a nice gravel access site in the city park in Amery. The park also offfers picnicking and tennis facilities.
