Wolf Rocks was the site of the Civilian Conversation Corp Camp
S-119 that was active from 1933 to 1941. During this time there was
a contingent of about 200 men at this site. Some of the original
buildings are still standing today. Buildings 374 and 120 are a
short distance from the Cache near the CCC sign where a small
stream crosses the road.
Near a parking area you will see a stone building that is
covered with earth. All that shows is the doorway. This was the
fruit cellar for the camp. It is believed that they stored potatoes
in this building. Thanks to the camp owner across the road it has
been cleaned up. This parking area, across from the stone doorway,
is about 90 feet from the Cache . Please do not block the camp
driveway when you park.
The easiest way to the Cache is up the hill past this building
to the Orange Blazed Trail. It is a steep but short climb. This is
part of the Allegheny Front Trail. Follow the trail to the Cache.
GPS reading are tough near this rock formation but will get you
close to the Cache you seek. Use the hint and do not go down hill
off the trail. The Cache is close to the Foot Path. Enjoy the peace
and solitude of this area.
Congratulations to Team Hartsock on the FTF!
