Tour of Churches – East Leg #1 Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

TheGadgetMan: This is the last surviving cache of the five in the Tour of Churches series. I am archiving this cache so another, probably more interesting, cache can be located nearby. This tour of churches series has been very problematic, including the fact that two of the five original churches were destroyed by a tornado in 2011. Maybe I might recreate the series using different churches at some point in the future. Thanks for all the nice logs.

Geocache Description:

Cullman, Alabama is known as the City of Churches. The Cullman County Museum, in conjunction with The North Alabama Walking Club and the Cullman Area Chamber of Commerce, have put together the Cullman Tour of Churches which is a history-oriented two-leg walking tour of many of the churches in downtown Cullman.

These organizations asked to have geocaches placed at some of these churches as a way of blending additional compatible activities and interests into this walking tour.

The tour begins and ends at the Cullman County Museum. The first leg of the walking tour will visit churches on the east side of highway 31 and is roughly 3 miles in length. The second leg of the walking tour will visit churches on the west side of highway 31. The total tour is approximately 6.5 miles. Tours are self guided and self paced. Maps and tour programs are available free of charge at the Cullman County Museum during regular business hours, M-F 9am - 4pm, and Sunday 1:30pm - 4:30pm. A small prize will be given to anyone who answers all the questions on the tour program.

The geocaches in this series are placed at churches in the east leg of the walking tour. Although these caches can be done as stand-alone geocaches (separate from the tour), I strongly encourage you to stop by the museum, pick up a map and tour program, and enjoy the tour. Only about half of the churches in this leg of the tour will have a geocache placement. So, by finding these geocaches as part of the tour, you will be taking advantage of the opportunity to see and learn more about the history of this area than you would otherwise.

This geocache is hidden at Grace Episcopal Church, which is the first church on the east leg of the walking tour. The cache container is now a micro due to the fact that two larger containers were muggled. This is hidden in a very typical way and should be an easy find. If you need a hint, then it must be missing, so please log all DNFs.

The usual requests apply: Please re-hide as well as, or better than, you found it. Above all, use common sense and decency and DO NOT attempt this cache while ANY services (church, funeral, wedding, other) are taking place.

Have fun and enjoy the tour.
