Montgarri, un somni abandonat

Montgarri era (és) un poble de la Vall d’Aran situat a 1.645 m d’altitud. Degut al difícil accés durant els mesos més freds (els seus habitants es podien passar fins a 6 mesos incomunicats) i a les exigències de la vida moderna, va ser abandonat ara farà uns 60 anys. El darrer habitant, en Ton, va marxar l’any 1962 en morir la seva dona i quedar-se ell sol al poble. Abandonat, però no mort, el Santuari de Montgarri el manté en vida.

Aquest cache, poc pretensiós, però alhora fascinant, us proposa un recorregut en el passat dels habitants d’aquell poble. Dos possibles camins us portaran a la vall on es troba el Santuari que reviu cada dia amb la visita dels amants de la natura. Més al fons, adormit, però no oblidat, descansen les runes del que van ser les llars de famílies de la Vall ... entre elles, la d’en Ton i de la seva estimada esposa.

Us recomanem prendre el camí de la dreta, per on poden circular també vehicles 4x4 i continuar el camí, sense desviar-se al senyal que indica el Santuari, per poder arribar al poble de Montgarri en primer lloc. Allunyat dels visitants, us proporcionarà la intimitat necessària per trobar el cache. La tornada al Pla de Beret, per que no provar GR que surt tot just del Santuari. Una visió del paisatge totalment diferent i la perspectiva del Santuari des de lluny, us gratificarà, sens dubte, la visita al poble abandonat !

Montgarri, an abandoned dream

Montgarri was (is) a village in Vall d’Aran at an altitude of 1.645 m. Due to the isolation during the cold months (villagers could spend as long as 6 months with no outside contact) and the progress of society, the town was abandoned about 60 years ago. The last villager, named Ton, left in 1962 when his wife died and he was the only one remaining in the village. Abandoned, but not dead, the Santuari de Montgarri keeps the village alive.

This unpretentious but, at the same time, fascinating cache suggests an itinerary through the history of the townspeople of Montgarri. Two different routes will take you to the valley where the Santuari comes to life every day with nature loving visitors. Deeper into the valley, dormant but not forgotten, lie the ruins of what used to be the dwelling places of the inhabitants of the valley … amongst them, Ton and his beloved wife’s home.

We recommend taking the path on the right, where 4x4 vehicles can also drive, staying on the road without following the sign to the Santuari, in order to reach the village of Montgarri first. Off the beaten track and well secluded, this spot offers the privacy needed for searching for the box. The return to Pla de Beret, why not try the GR that starts right at the Santuari? A completely different view of the landscape and the Santuari in the distance are well worth the effort.
