Pendleton's Cache Traditional Cache

This cache has been archived.

TheGriefmeister: This has once again gone so I have decided to archive the cache. The sign it was attached too has once again been damaged and removed. How can a sign that far away from the road be destroyed so many times!? Thanks for all those who came and were successful.

Geocache Description:

The cache is actually a Nano so please bring a pen. Suitable for wheelchair users and people with Geokids and Geodogs. Plenty of parking near to the cache but please be mindful that this piece of road is 30mph and not 70mph like some people seem to think. I would advise avoiding the school run times as this piece of cyclepath is used extensively by children go to and from the local Middle School and you'll never get the cache done at those times.

This cache is to celebrate the local cycling hero, Victoria Pendleton.

In honour of Victoria's sporting success the Stotfold Town Council named this section of cyclepath after her and it is marked as the Pendleton Way.

Victoria was born in Stotfold on 24th September 1980. Her dad was a national grass track cycling champion and it was only natural for her to follow quickly in her father's footsteps. Victoria competed in her first race at 9 years old but wasn't spotted as a possible talent for some years. Victoria attended the nearby Fernhill School in Letchworth and later went onto complete a degree in Sport and Exercise Science at Northumbria University in Newcastle Upon Tyne. Victoria was competing during her education but completed her degree before becoming a full time cyclist.

Any web searches will reveal her very extensive list of wins but a few notable victories are:

Sprint World Track Championships 2005, 2007, 2008 & 2009
Team Sprint World Champion 2007, 2008
Gold 2006 Sprint Commonwealth Games
Silver 2006 Time Trial Commonwealth Games
Gold 2008 Sprint Olympic Games, Bejing

This is my first published cache so any feedback would be gratefully received.
