Geocache Description:

In 1240, a Perambulation of Dartmoor occurred. The party’s route is described as starting from Cosdonne/later called Cawsand/now called Cosdon hill and they then made their way south - either east about the Gallaven Mire or west about it depending on which interpretation you believe from the work of historians. This series of caches, starting from Berrydown car park (N50 40.365 W003 53.701) will take you around both possible routes visiting prominent points mentioned in many texts.

Nearly all of the route is outside the Army Range Danger Area but you should check beforehand if you think your wanderings might result in your straying into possible danger. Check the Dartmoor Firing Notice here beforehand - (visit link)
The caches to be visited are as follows: 1 Gorse, 2 Thirlestone 1?, 3 Ruelake Pit, 4 Whitmore Stone, 5 Little Hound Tor, 6 Cosdon or Cawsand, 7 Willtor Well, 8 Watern Tor - Thirlestone?, 8 Hawthorn Clitter, 9 Manga Rock, 10 Rails, 11 Two Stones Shovel Down, 12 Long Stone, Tolmen – Thirlestone 2? Also enroute you could visit caches at Buttern Hill, Hound Tor, Wild Tor and Scorhill Circle.
None of these caches have pencils, most are small but some will take swaps.
You should ensure you are properly prepared before undertaking this challenge as this part of the moor is desolate and can be very wet. Some of the caches are located a long hike from any safe parking area.
Good Luck
The hole between the stacks is why it is reckoned that this is the 'Thirlestone' mentioned in the records of the Perambulation.
