A VERY EASY, two Stage MULTI.


ERIE WAS THE FIRST COUNTY SEAT OF WHAT NOW IS CAMDEN COUNTY.



Among the oldest readable graves in the Erie Cemetery are the graves of Catherine Farmer (1840-1870) and Andrew T. Bayly (1822-1870). Some partial readable stones are marked as death in 1855 of Margarete, the daughter of William and Mary Roberts. In 1854 refugees, who had arrived by flatboat, brought a cholera outbreak to Erie. Two local men donated land to provide a cemetery. Union Electric placed a monument in honor of the “Casualties of the Cherokee Trail of Tears ????” in the Erie Cemetery when they were moving cemeteries for the creation of Bagnell Dam.

Actually, the Trail/Tears did not come thru near us. It did cross on the Old Wire Rd that runs north of Springfield. The story goes with the locals that UE was supposed to move the Indian graves up to Erie Cemetery, but no digging was done & the marker was quickly in place at the cemetery.

Linn Creek Cemetery has more important & historic notables than any other cemetery that I know of. Gov. J McClurg is buried in the Lebanon Cemetery (tallest monument in the middle of the cemetery).

To find the cache coordinates, go to the Trail of Tears marker at the posted coordinates and find the date on the marker.

If the date is in the 1800s, the coordinates are N 38° 05.255 W 092° 44.296

If the date is in the 1900s, the coordinates are N 38° 05.250 W 092° 44.278

If the date is in the 2000s, the coordinates are N 38° 05.253 W 092° 44.288
