Apparently being renovated- Booborowie is in the heart of the old sheep country and the Booborowie Station Wool Shed still stands.
DISABLED - apparently renovations have put the mosiac tables in storage for now.
The township of Booborowie, so named after the Ngadjuri, word for “round water hole”, is in a rolling valley to the North West of Burra.
In 1843, brothers and Doctors, William and James Browne, took up the Booborowie run as squatters. In 1851 they purchased a 14 year Crown lease. Once the land was surveyed in 1863, the brothers purchased 46,978 acres.
Initially the town was intended as a much larger service and commercial centre, however this did not eventuate. In the 1860’s an eating house and stables were built to cater for the needs of the Cobb and Co stage coaches making their way between Adelaide and Blinman in the Flinders Ranges. These were later changed into Council Chambers.
This cache takes you to some of the still standing buildings that tell of a history based on large sheep runs. The Booborowie Wool Shed was a 28 stand shed built in the 1880’s. Tom Roberts painting “Shearing of the Rams” takes place in a similar sized shed.
At WP 1 there are two table mosaics outlining the history of the district. The sketches are very detailed.

About 5 kms North are other old buildings and a drive through the town is also worthwhile.
