A straightforward cache in the picturesque village of Clavering, in north-west Essex.
Did you know Clavering had a castle? I didn't until I noticed it on the OS map and thought it was worth investigating. There isn't much left now except earthworks, but it is unusual for this area in that it is believed to date from pre-Norman times.
The cache site is on the boundary between the churchyard and the castle site. You have good views from the public footpath, but the castle itself is on private land, so please resist the temptation to explore further.
The cache is a small clip-top plastic container inside a camouflage bag, and when placed it contained a log-book, pencil, and a selection of the usual goodies.
