Geocache Description:

This beach is on the north shore just off of highway 5. It is easily accessible.

This beach is 1600 meters long and is made up of white sand, It is one of the most spectacular beaches in the Dominican Republic and rated as one of the top 10 beaches in the world. Each end of this beach is anchored by rugged coral formation with beautiful cliffs.
It takes hundred's even millions of years for sand to be formed from larger rocks that are broken down into smaller pieces by the wind and the flow of water tossing them around.Over years the erosion process, the particles are carried by wind and can form dunes,or are carried by water to river banks, lakes, or seas where they can form beaches. Sand that is found on the beach is mostly composed of quartz.
There are three grades of sand that can be found on beaches, fine, medium and coarse. Fine sand is 1/8 mm. to 1/4 mm. in diameter. Medium sand is 1/4 mm. to 1/2 mm. in diameter. Coarse sand is 1/2mm. to 1 mm. in diameter.
The shape of a beach depends on weather or not the waves are constructive of destructive. Constructive waves move material up the beach while destructive waves move the material down the beach. This beach has been shaped by constructive waves.
