There is a 1930's unpaved road to the cache, slippery in places when wet. Part of the road has been washed away leaving rocky, carved terrain, but only for a short distance. The cache is at about 230 metres above sea level. There are some dangers about if you do not treat the area with the necessary respect as can be seen from the photos.
All the photos were taken on a dull overcast day, the view and scenery on a good day are excellent. Its not a place to be on a wet and windy day. Enjoy.
Less than a mile from the lake you will come to a double gate. One is for vehicles and marked "Public Road, Please close gate". This is the only gate with a notice asking you to shut the gate after you use it, but you should apply this rule to the other gates you come across also.
Continue down to the lake where there is a car park and picnic area, if the car park is full there is more unpaved parking further down.
Generally speaking this is a very quiet area with few visitors. The walk will take you about 40 minutes from the car park. You should stick to the path until you get close to the cache as there are steep glens and ravines in the area. There are concrete bridges whenever you need to cross a stream, looking up at these bridges they seem to be in the middle of nowhere. These bridges were built back in the 1930's when times were harder.
At the cache site there are excellent views back down to Annascaul and beyond. Hopefully, the weather will be on your side.
I have looked at the the link "driving directions" and beware it sends you a different route to the way I suggest with the waypoint. You should not begin from the side of the lake suggested by the driving directions because that property is private
