Commemorating Amateur Radio Field Day, 2009! This annual event provides emergency communications practice for individuals and organizations and occurs during the 4th weekend in June every year. Using only emergency power supplies, ham operators construct emergency communications stations in parks, shopping malls, schools and back yards around the country. More than 35,000 operators across the country participated in the 2008 event and over 1.2 million radio contacts took place. There are over 650,000 Amateur Radio licensees in the US, and more than 2.5 million around the world.
The cache is within 1,000 feet of the 2009 Field Day site chosen by a coordinated team comprising the Derby Office of Emergency Management and the Greater Bridgeport Amateur Radio Club (See http://www.GBARC.net.). Come visit us from the morning of Saturday June 27, 2009 through noon on June 28th. We will be operating continuously for almost 24 hours and anyone, with or without an amateur radio operator license, will have the opportunity to get on the air and talk to hams all over the USA and the world. We don’t start setting up until 9:00 AM on the 27th and are not officially on the air until 2:00 pm, but may be operational before then.
See the nearby caches GC13E00 commemorating Field Day 2007 and GC1CPXE commemorating Field Day 2008. Hams are urged to include their call sign in the cache log and those that are interested in becoming an Amateur Radio Operator are urged to look at "more about amateur radio" for further information or contact CTGeoHam.
