Welcome to Greenfield Lake, one of the oldest parks in the city of
Wilmington. Here you will find a wonderful array of trails and
shady resting spots amongst giant cypress, magnolias, and oaks. The
158-acre park boasts a large playground, tennis courts, picnic
areas, a skate park, paddleboats, and some of the best scenery in
the region.
All of these things are wonderful, but our favorite part of the
journey around this lake is definitely the bridges. There are large
bridges which offer more sweeping views of the lake and smaller -
almost hidden - bridges which offer passage over tiny coves full
of
turtles, birds, and the occasional alligator. It’s tough to squeeze
in new hides in this cache-rich location, but we’re going to do our
best to lead you to some of our favorite bridges in the area!
This is another one of the little cove bridges at the lake. It’s
set back from the road a bit, so you might not even notice it when
enjoying the scenic drive around Greenfield. The bridge leads from
the sidewalk along E. Shore Drive to...E. Shore Drive. (Huh?) The
cache is a log-only micro. Please use your common sense and stealth
when retrieving this container – if there are other people hanging
out on the bridge, you may need to come back in a little while in
order to avoid jeopardizing the cache. You should also limit your
search to daylight hours, for safety’s sake!
Good luck and Have Fun!
