Geocache Description:

Almost a park and grab with thorns.

The Chicago Northwestern RR laid tracks to many small towns as this country grew. It was the only way to transport farm crops to distant markets. Many rail-side towns boomed and grew as farmers in the area came to the railhead to sell and deliver their excess crops. The farmers were then able to use their hard earned cash to purchase needed supplies for the farm and household from the business owners in town.

As times progressed, roads were built and vehicles were purchased. Trucks were soon moving the grain to larger local cities and better priced markets. The trucks could move the grain at a lower cost then the railroads. The railroads soon found themselves losing money on these side line tracks. Many of these tracks were abandoned. Today, many of these abandoned railroads have been transformed into recreation trails of one type or another.

This location is one of those abandoned railways. The iron rails and spikes as well as the ties have been removed and the land left to nature. There is no recreation trail, just nature taking over. At the right time of year, Late June through Early August, blackberries and raspberries can be gathered here.

The cache is a small Lock-N-Lock type container large enough to hold most Travel Bugs and some trade items. Snow will cover this hide.

Because we will soon be moving to Texas, this cache is available for adoption. UPDATE: Cache has successfully been adopted by Smurfy98!
