The narrow track and lookout is part of the Larapinta Trail. This
old bridle path was once used for horseback tours from Standley
Chasm. The Larapinta Trail markers are a blue triangle and can
be seen attached to trees or on posts in the ground.
From Standley Chasm car park walk down the road for 500m to the
start of the track. The marked trail enters a watercourse which is
normally dry, walk upstream along the boulder filled creek bed,
passing through a lovely gorge. This water course and trail follows
the base of a steep sided valley. As the trail rises, the water
course gradually narrows to a minor drainage gully, leaving the
leisurely part of the walk behind. The trail now undulates on a
long ascent to the lookout above. After the initial ascent the
trail negotiates the ridges of the Chewings Range. After 4.8km you
will come upon the Bridal Path Lookout. Take the short 100m detour
to this lookout and enjoy the outstanding views back down the
valley towards Standley Chasm. The altitude at this lookout is
1010m so be prepared for a long gradual ascent. If you are a day
walker expect a 10km return walk from Standley Chasm, or you can
complete Section 4 of the Larapinta by walking from Standley Chasm
to Birthday Waterhole, via Brinkley Bluff.
This cache was placed on Day 5 of our Larapinta trail
walk.
The cache is a standard square 1.2l sistema container. If you
have made the effort to get here ,we want you to find the cache. It
is well protected from the harsh sun but should not be difficult to
find. It is not near the cliff edges so don't go there. Please make
sure you replace the revealing stones back the way they were to
protect the cache from the elements.
A big thank you to Alice Springs based cachers 2lostsouls who
have kindly agreed to help maintain this cache.
