Geocache Description:

Cache is located at the Big Bass Lake public access. You are searching for a camo peanut butter container with log book, pencil, and some small trading items. FTF dollar and STF 50 cent piece are included. USE STEALTH! This one will be tricky if there are boaters launching at the ramp. Wait till the coast is clear before you do much searching, and please make sure the cache is hidden well when you leave. Good luck!

Big Bass Lake is a 380-acre lake with a maximum depth of 17 feet. The lake is located six miles northeast of Bemidji in southern Beltrami County. There is a DNR public access on the south side of the lake off of Tall Pines Road. The lake has an abundance of bluegills, as well as fairly high numbers of northern pike, yellow perch, and some walleye. As you may expect from its name, largemouth bass can also be caught, and in the 2002 Minnesota DNR survey a large sample of largemouth bass were captured ranging in length from 3 to 18 inches, although most of the bass were under eight inches long. Past high water levels could be favoring natural reproduction for bass.

There has been much development on the lake. In 1965 the first permanent home was built on the lake. In the 1973 fisheries survey, 50 lake homes were counted. By 1997 this number had increased to 127.
