A short flat walk to the cache, but there is a drop right into the water immediately below the cache, so keep young ones away from the edge please. No dogs. Parking opposite, at the high stone wall.
Perth is a busy wee inland harbour, 30 miles from the North Sea.
Ships arrive up to 90 metres in length after negotiating the many sandbanks along the way, following the tides. They can only arrive and leave on the high tide.
Cargo can be seen arriving from Europe, the Baltic or Scandinavia, ranging from animal feedstuffs and fertilisers to timber, chemicals and baryte ore. The smell is not very pleasant when the fishmeal arrives, and is carried away on lorries dripping their wet contents along the way.
Perhaps not the prettiest of locations unless you enjoy watching the ships load and unload, but certainly an important place in Perth. The bank and trees you see opposite the cache are not the far side of the River Tay, but is Moncrieffe Island, on which there is a golf course and allotments. The area to the right of the cache is called Friarton Sands - but not the place to bring your bucket and spade.
